Pushkar Brahma Temple Timings 2026: Darshan Hours, Pushkar Lake Ghats, Rules and the Camel Fair

Last verified: September 2026. Timings extend during Kartik Purnima and shift slightly by season — confirm at the temple.

Pushkar has one of a tiny handful of temples anywhere dedicated to Brahma, and the story of why he’s barely worshipped — Saraswati’s curse after he married Gayatri to complete a yagna without her — is told to every visitor within ten minutes of arrival. The temple itself is small and the darshan is quick. What takes the time is the lake, the ghats, and the town’s particular way of separating pilgrims from their money. This guide covers all of it.

Brahma Temple Timings

SessionTime
Morning6:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Closed1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Evening3:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Morning aartiAround 7:00 AM
Evening aartiAround 7:00 PM (earlier in winter)

Entry is free. Darshan takes 15–30 minutes; the sanctum is small and the queue moves. Winter mornings can open a little later. During the Kartik fair the temple stays open longer and the queue can run over an hour.

Rules Inside

  • Shoes off at the steps; no phones or cameras inside the temple (the town is relaxed, the temple isn’t).
  • Leather items are discouraged.
  • Dress modestly. Pushkar is a vegetarian, alcohol-free town by rule.
  • Marigold-and-red-thread offerings are sold at the base; you’ll be handed one whether you want it or not — decide before you take it.

Pushkar Lake and the Ghats

The lake is the actual pilgrimage. Fifty-two ghats ring it; a bath here on Kartik Purnima is held to be equal to decades of penance. Whatever the season, go down to the ghats for sunrise and for the evening aarti at Varah Ghat or Brahma Ghat.

The priest situation: at the ghats you’ll be approached to perform a “Pushkar puja” for the family’s wellbeing. It’s a real ritual, but the “donation” is negotiated and pressure can be firm. Decide in advance: either agree a fixed amount (₹100–₹200 per person is normal) before it starts, or politely decline and walk on. Once the thread is on your wrist (the “Pushkar passport”), further approaches stop.

  • No shoes on the ghats; carry them.
  • No photography of bathers.
  • Gandhi Ghat, Varah Ghat and Brahma Ghat are the main ones; Jaipur Ghat is quieter.

Other Temples Worth the Climb

  • Savitri Temple — on the hill above town, either a 45-minute climb or the ropeway (₹150 return approx). Sunrise from here is the best view in Pushkar.
  • Gayatri Temple — on the opposite hill; quieter, similar sunset view.
  • Rangji Temple — South Indian style, Vishnu; 6 AM–7 PM.
  • Varah Temple — near Varah Ghat, one of the oldest.

The Pushkar Fair (Kartik Mela)

The camel and livestock fair runs in the week leading to Kartik Purnima (full moon of Kartik, usually November). The trading peaks early in the week; the cultural programmes, the moustache competitions and the full-moon bathing are at the end. Expect the town to be full — hotel rates triple, and rooms within walking distance go months ahead. The 2026 dates fall in late November; the exact dates are published by Rajasthan Tourism.

How to Reach

  • Air: Kishangarh (Ajmer) Airport, 40 km, limited flights. Jaipur 145 km, 3 hours, the usual entry point.
  • Rail: Ajmer Junction, 15 km; well connected from Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai. Pushkar has a small station with few trains.
  • Road: Ajmer 15 km by shared jeep or bus (30 minutes); Jaipur 145 km; Ahmedabad 500 km.

Where to Stay

Around the lake for atmosphere (havelis and guesthouses, mostly budget to mid-range); the Ajmer road side has the larger hotels and resorts. Sunrise-facing rooms on the east side of the lake are the pick. For the fair, book by August.

Best Time to Visit

October to March. November is the fair; December–January is cold at dawn but clear. Summer is 40°C+ and best avoided.
