At 9 AM on that day, I stood inside the cave shrine of Yadagirigutta temple surrounded by lit lamps, camphor, and flowers. That answered all of those questions. It was certainly worth the pre-dawn drive! However, truth be told, I made some timing errors on my first visit to Yadagirigutta. I missed the Nijabhishekam by twenty minutes. I visited through the wrong gate. I wasn’t aware of the noon closure time.
This post includes everything I’ve come to learn about Yadagirigutta temple timings over the course of multiple visits to the place, just so you don’t make the same mistake as me.
Yadagirigutta Temple – A Brief Insight Before Moving on to Timing
Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam, popularly known as the Yadagirigutta temple, is an Indian Hindu shrine located in a hill in Nalgonda district, Telangana. The uniqueness of the temple lies in its deity Lord Narasimha who is not housed in a pedestal or a wall carving but present in a natural cave, which measures 30 feet long and 12 feet high.
What makes the temple unique among other Narasimha temples of India is that it houses all five incarnations of Lord Narasimha namely Jwala Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha, Gandabherunda Narasimha, and Lakshmi Narasimha, and hence has come to be known as Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.
The story dates back to sage Yadarishi who was the son of Rishyasrunga and who conducted intense tapasya in this cave and pleased Lord Narasimha who appeared to him in five forms and promised him that He will always stay at the top of this hill until the Kaliyuga period ends.
This temple underwent a renovation project worth ₹1,800 crores by the Telangana Government. The renovated temple, which is made of white marble and is adorned with 39 kilos of gold and 1,753 tonnes of silver, is one that will really stop you dead in your tracks once you lay your eyes upon it.

The Yadagirigutta Temple is open from 3:30 AM to 9:45 PM. Inside this time frame, it operates in several specific time slots, some designated for rituals, others for darshan, and the rest exclusively for VIP-ticket holders.

One Timing Mistake That Everyone Makes
This is a timing mistake that I’ve made myself, and I’ve seen many others come to the temple to make it: You think you will make it in time to see the morning ceremonies if you reach the temple at 8 AM. You won’t. The Nijabhishekam, which is the most important ceremony of the day, is concluded by 6:15 AM.
The Nijabhishekam is a ritual that makes the cave feel like nowhere else on earth. If Nijabhishekam is something you care about (and once you realize what it is, it definitely will be), get to the temple no later than 5:00 AM. This means waking up at 3:30 AM in Hyderabad.
Yadagirigutta Temple Timings VIP Darshan – Is It Worth It?
VIP Break Darshan is conducted twice a day – one session from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and another one from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Only about 200 tickets are issued per slot, making this darshan session relatively peaceful.
Access is through North Rajagopuram, different from the general darshan queue. When you have to stand in a long line in the general darshan session for 2-3 hours on Sundays, VIP darshan will get you in less than an hour. Price-wise, VIP Darshan tickets are very affordable; booking them is easy online at yadagiriguttatemple.telangana.gov.in.
To be clear, I would suggest that on regular days, it’s okay to do general darshan. On Saturdays, Sundays, and any special darshan day – go for VIP.
Duration of Darshan Process – How Long Will You Take?
On weekdays, expect about 20-30 minutes from start to finish of darshan. On weekends, budget a minimum of 30-45 minutes, and on special days, even 2 hours won’t be unusual. On the two biggest annual events – Narasimha Jayanti and Brahmotsavam – reach the temple gate before 5 AM and bring plenty of patience along.
Sevas That You Need To Know
The temple has some unique sevas that go beyond routine darshan. Those that devotees usually inquire about:
- Nitya Kalyanotsavam – The celestial marriage seva conducted daily between 9:45 AM and 11:30 AM. It is an experience worth remembering, as you get to see the god dressed like a bridegroom. Ticket bookings are essential.
- Sudarshana Narasimha Homam – Conducted every morning at 7:15 AM. This is a highly potent fire sacrifice for clearing obstructions. Families can join in after booking in advance.
- Satyanarayana Swamy Vratham – Offered thrice daily during morning, noon, and night hours. Complete sevas that families can book and take part in together.
- Saswata Sevas – Annual sevas that run all through the year in your name. Ideal for those who seek a sustained bond with the temple.

Practical Tips before You Visit Yadagirigutta Temple Timings
Clothing: It is better to wear traditional clothes. The priests at the temple do pay attention to this, especially during VIP darshan, where men should wear dhoti or kurta-pyjama, while women should dress in saree or salwar kameez.
Non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and smoking are not allowed inside the temple and its vicinity.
Prasadam: On a daily basis, 100 kg of Pulihora and 6 kg of Daddojanam are given out for free to pilgrims. You can come in the morning and continue until the end of the ritual process, and then you will be provided with prasadam – this is enough reason to plan your trip here.
Ideal time of year to visit Yadagirigutta Temple Timings: October-March. The summer season in Telangana (April-June) is extremely hot, and the hilltop does not provide any shade. Therefore, try visiting in winter, when your morning climb up the stairs resembles meditation.
One Last Thing
In the Yadagirigutta cave (Yadagirigutta Temple Timings), there is a place that I have tried explaining since I saw it for the first time, and I can never get it completely across. The garbhagriha is located in a rock cave – the roof is low, and there are lamps burning, giving off an ancient light. The five manifestations of Narasimha are carved directly out of the cave’s walls.
