The Saurashtra coastal region has an extraordinarily high concentration of pilgrimage centers within just 240 km of road journey. With proper planning, this route can be done in 3 to 4 days to offer some of the best temple circuits in India, not due to the length of each leg being long but because of the sheer value of each point in a half-day visit and not just a sightseeing. Complete Guide on Somnath to dwarka road trip.

Day 2: Somnath to Porbandar (120 km approximate distance)

Make a stop at Porbandar which is the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi. Worth stopping by at Kirti Mandir even during a temple tour route. Continue to Dwarka or stay back in Porbandar as per preference.

Day 3: Porbandar to Dwarka (approx. 120 km)

Reach Dwarkadhish Temple by mid-afternoon. Have a look around, and head on to Rukmini Devi Temple. In case you can squeeze it in, make sure to catch the boat ride to Bet Dwarka, which stops running in the evening. Somnath to dwarka road trip is enjoyable but not that easy as you neeed to follow a complete road in proper way or else you may lost somewhere in the middle of saurashtra.

Day 4: Dwarka and Nageshwar

Morning at Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, a bit outside Dwarka, and the remainder of the day is free for backtracking or heading to Jamnagar in case you have to fly from there.

Conditions on Road & Tips for Driving to somnath to dwarka road trip

  • Generally good condition road along the coast; single carriageways in the vicinity of small towns reduce speed significantly
  • Fuel points are not difficult to find, but do make your stops in towns, not counting on rural stretches to be equipped with one
  • Engaging a local driver is a huge time-saver compared to GPS navigation, especially in the busy streets of Porbandar

Where Should You Base Yourself when travelling from somnath?

There are adequate accommodation options for both Somnath and Dwarka on their respective temple zones, whereas Porbandar will be a better lunch halt option rather than an overnight stay location unless there’s a deliberate intention to break up the journey into two days.

Getting Around from somnath to dwarka road trip

For your Somnath leg of the trip, fly to either Diu or Rajkot airports while your Dwarka leg would require you to fly out of either Jamnagar or Porbandar airports.

It’s always advisable not to rush into this route in two days. This is because visiting these temples is not the challenge here but traversing the coast line between the temples.
